Man Sues Secret Service (Arrested After Insulting Cheney)

Via NPR: “The US Supreme Court hears arguments Wednesday in a case involving the arrest of a Colorado man who was thrown in jail after telling Vice President Cheney in 2006 that the Bush administration’s policies in Iraq were “disgusting.” Environmental consultant Steven Howards is suing the Secret Service agents who arrested him, contending that the arrest violated his First Amendment rights because it was nothing more than retaliation for the views he expressed to the vice president…”.* Ana Kasparian and guest host Michael Shure discuss on The Young Turks. * www.npr.org

It’s because he approached DICK Cheney. I bet you could do the same to most members of that administration, say the same thing, and nothing would have come of it except the satisfaction of having forced the person to hear you reject in certain terms their policies that continue to harm millions of American lives. They’re not private citizens, ie they are never going to be immune to such criticism and complaints. Cheney is the worst. He probably profited from the Iraq War more than any one.

  2. StunnedByStupidity says:

Sue the despicably cowardly secret service guys for as much as he can get. And put Cheney on trial for crimes against humanity. THE MAN IS A HERO – speaking truth to power is one of THE chants of the left…

  3. bigraviolees says:

Id planned on flipping him the bird and giving him a long rasberry, guess id have gotten death row for that

  4. forgetititititit says:

Just imagine a German citizen had done that to a Nazi war criminal. Should he have been handcuffed and thrown into jail?

  5. katsumorymoto says:

Oh, don’t mind Dick.. He’s just the devil.. He’ll arrest you for seeing through his illusion is all..

  6. GnosticHumanist says:

Politicians in America are treated like royalty. Like you can’t even talk to them or that’s assault.

  7. sagatbalrog says:

that guy had no right to TOUCH dick cheney. you can’t do that. he lost his first amendment rights asoon as he did that.

  8. WeEatBrainz says:

This guy is fucking awesome! I honestly don’t think I would have the balls to say that to Dick Cheney’s face.

  9. WeEatBrainz says:

Because touching someone’s shoulder=assault? There are reasonable arguments to be made for other crimes, they might have been able to say it was threatening but it was definitely not assault. If i tapped your shoulder to get your attention, would you charge me with assault? No, if anything, you might say something like “please don’t touch my shoulder” or “knock it off”.

  10. sagatbalrog says:

When you walk right up to and touch a controversial political figure like that, it could mean your plotting to kill him. Secret service had the right to question him.

  11. WeEatBrainz says:

Yes, they absolutely have the right to question him. They don’t have the right to arrest him under charges that don’t fit the situation.

  12. RGarrettGamer says:

I’m suprised Cheney did’nt shoot the guy.

  13. synapse131 says:

Wow. I never thought about it before but “SS” for the Secret Service is soooooo appropriate in this context.

  17. cronicjointpain says:

good job man!!! to bad you’ll lose your case and a lot of money tho. when criminals run the government, this type of shit happens. You should have punched his ass, after all you got an assault charge, mine as well make it justified. next thing you know sneezing in the same room a politicians in will get you felony charges if you happen to dislike that politician. Some free society we live in huh? when you can’t protect your own life, can’t perserve your own rights, have to work all your life to

  18. cronicjointpain says:

retire and die two years later and can’t do what you want with your life and your body.
Wake up America your gov is completely corrupt and does not give a shit about you, your freedom or any of your rights.

  19. OriginalCarbonFilter says:

What’s worse? The other side is arguing that not only the Secret Service, but the POLICE as well get sovereign immunity. If they win the case, we could see a KGB-like police force in the country.

  20. upabittoolate says:
